Transfer to Hirasaka
— 转校生与异界之门
Rei Kamiya(神矢伶)arrives as a transfer student at Hirasaka Academy(比良坂学园), a prestigious school nestled in Kyoto's outskirts. The prologue serves as an atmospheric introduction — explore the academy's 3D campus grounds (main gate plaza, courtyard) and 2D interior corridors to familiarize yourself with the dual-perspective system.
Your first night at the academy dormitory is interrupted by an otherworldly phenomenon. A mysterious rift opens, pulling Rei into the Otherworld Labyrinth(异界迷宫)for the first time. This tutorial dungeon introduces basic 2D platforming — use X to jump and R to sprint. Navigate through the linear path, interact with sealed doors, and reach the depths where a cryptic figure grants Rei his first Shikirei Talisman(式霊符).
After the vision fades, Rei awakens back in his dorm — but the Talisman is real. The prologue ends with Rei learning that he is a 'Qualified One'(適格者), one of the rare individuals capable of entering the Otherworld and wielding a Soul Device.
Awakening of the Soul Device
— 灵魂装置的觉醒
The first full chapter introduces the game's daily loop. Morning classes begin — you'll experience the card-based study system for the first time. Each class draws 5 action cards randomly from your hand; you get one free reshuffle. Choose cards that match the subject to boost your 智/勇/仁 (Wisdom/Courage/Benevolence) stats efficiently.
During free time, explore the academy grounds in 3D and the interior hallways in 2D. Key NPCs to interact with on day one: your homeroom teacher (unlocks tutorial quests), the academy nurse (healing items), and the student council president (world-building dialogue). Each interaction costs FP points and contributes to their personal story progress.
Your first real labyrinth descent takes place in the evening. Layer 1 — Entrance to the Otherworld is a straightforward dungeon with Shadow Wisps and Lesser Golems. Master the □+△ combo system and the R2 lock-on shooting mechanic. Your goal: reach the Guardian Warden boss room. The boss fight transitions to 3D combat — use Rei's Twin Blades aggressively. After victory, you'll gain your second Talisman choice.
After the labyrinth, the chapter closes with Rei formally joining the academy's 'Qualified Ones' roster and meeting his first party member.
The First Descent
— 初次深入
With the tutorial behind you, Chapter 2 expands the scope significantly. You'll now have access to Kyoto's city streets during free time — seven distinct districts await, each modeled after real Kyoto locations: Shijo-dori(四条通り, modern shopping district), Pontocho(先斗町, restaurant alley), Gion(祇園, traditional entertainment district), and more.
In the city, spend AP points at shops: restaurants boost temporary stats, equipment vendors sell weapon upgrades, and specialty stores carry consumables. NPCs appear at fixed locations — Chinatsu Momoki(百鬼千奈)can be found browsing a war fan shop in Pontocho, triggering her recruitment side quest.
The labyrinth objective shifts to Layer 2 — The Winding Paths. This layer introduces branching routes and breakable walls. Your newly unlocked 'Wall Jump' Soul Board node is essential here. Hidden rooms behind cracked walls contain Memory Shards and Elemental Cores for Soul Board upgrades. Watch for fire traps in the eastern corridor — they activate on a timer pattern.
The boss, Oni General, is fire-element. Equip Water-element Shikirei Talismans (obtained from elite enemies on Layer 2 side paths) for a significant damage advantage. After defeating it, you can choose to: acquire a new Talisman, enhance an existing one's modifiers, or extract a fresh modifier for later use.
Back at the academy, an evening cutscene reveals hints about the 'Six Families'(六道家)and their connection to the labyrinth — the main plot threads begin to surface.
The Team Assembles
— 小队集结
Chapter 3 is where the story truly kicks into gear. All core party members come together: Rei, Chinatsu, Fuka(楓華), and Rurui(露露伊). Each brings unique combat roles — Fire burst mage, Water support/healer, and Wind ranged harasser respectively. The main narrative around the 'Otherworld Incursion'(异界侵蚀)phenomenon begins.
The labyrinth opens Layer 3 — The Mechanical Depths. This is the turning point where the dungeon design becomes genuinely engaging. New mechanics: portals that teleport you between rooms, spike traps requiring precise timing, hidden chests requiring double jumps or wall jumps, and environmental puzzles (fireball-activated walls). The Metroidvania elements fully emerge here.
Key exploration order: start from the central hub → east wing (double jump chest) → west wing (wall jump secret room) → north portal (boss arena). Enemies include Automata Knights (tanky, weak to Lightning), Phase Spiders (teleport, weak to Fire), and Dark Wisps (ranged, weak to Light).
Mid-chapter, you'll unlock the 'Training Ground'(训练场)feature — complete combat challenges to unlock enhanced versions of your □+△ combos for each character. Prioritize Rei's enhanced combo chain first since he's your most-used party member.
The boss, Ancient Automaton, is Earth-element. It summons adds at 60% and 30% HP — switch to Chinatsu for AoE clear, then back to your Water DPS for boss damage. Use Fuka's party-wide buff before the enrage phase at 25%.
The Deepening Mystery
— 谜团深化的阴影
The conspiracy behind the Otherworld begins to crystallize. Organizations from the Tokyo Xanadu era — Nemesis(涅墨西斯), the Zodiac(黄道带), and the Holy Spirit Church(圣灵教会)— make their presence known, alongside new Kyoto-original factions: the Six Families(六道家)and the Onmyo Bureau(阴阳寮).
Layer 4 — The Sunken Sanctuary introduces underwater combat and flooded sections. You'll need the 'Underwater Breathing' Soul Board node (智 path, unlocked via class performance) to access the lower levels. Pressure plate puzzles require you to position party members on specific tiles — switch characters with the D-pad.
The Phantom Poison system becomes more restrictive here. The 1,000-capacity Phantom Bottle fills faster due to higher enemy density. Spend your Phantom Essence before reaching 800+ to avoid the shattering debuff (continuous HP drain, cannot be healed). Unlock inventory slots and purchase NPC interaction points with excess Essence.
New enemies: Abyssal Knights (heavy armor, break guard with charged □), Water Serpents (fast, weak to Lightning Talismans), and Corrupted Priestesses (heal other enemies — target them first). The layer boss, Leviathan's Shade, is Water-element and has a devastating whirlpool attack — use Wind Talismans and stay near the arena edges during the vortex phase.
The Heart of the Labyrinth
— 迷宫的心脏
The penultimate chapter throws everything at you. Layer 5 — Heart of Xanadu is the largest and most complex dungeon layer, combining all previous mechanics. Elite enemy gauntlets guard the path to the final confrontation. Multiple interconnected zones require backtracking with fully upgraded traversal abilities.
Prepare thoroughly before entering: stock maximum healing items, upgrade all Soul Devices to at least level 4 on each character's primary path (智/勇/仁), and bring a diverse set of Talismans covering all elements. The elite gauntlet before the final boss door has 5 consecutive fights with no checkpoint — conserve SP and save Secret Combos for the last two elites.
The final boss is a multi-phase encounter. Phase 1 tests your party synergy — you'll need to switch characters frequently to match elemental weaknesses as the boss cycles through forms. Phase 2 is a DPS race with a soft enrage timer. Phase 3 is a narrative-driven sequence where Rei's bonds with his party members determine bonus effects.
After the boss falls, the labyrinth begins to collapse. A final escape sequence (timed 2D platforming) serves as the chapter's climax. Story resolution depends on how many character personal stories you've completed — aim for at least 15 out of 20+ for the best ending conditions.
Sakura Gensou — The Blooming Phantom
— 樱花幻舞
The finale is an epilogue chapter set after the labyrinth's collapse. Hirasaka Academy returns to peaceful daily life. You'll have one final free-roam period to complete any remaining NPC personal stories, unlock the last Soul Board nodes, and explore Kyoto's streets one last time.
Each party member gets an individual resolution scene — the depth of these scenes depends on how many FP interaction points you invested in them throughout the game. Characters with maxed-out personal stories receive special illustrated epilogue sequences.
The ending varies based on two factors: (1) number of completed NPC personal stories (threshold: 15/20 for the 'good' ending, all 20+ for the 'true' ending), and (2) your performance in the final exam (智/勇/仁 scores). A New Game+ mode unlocks after the credits, carrying over Talismans, Soul Board progress, and NPC relationship levels.
